While in their teens, Faith Harrowby and her sister Violet discover a young woman hiding from the law, saying she has killed her father. Faith commits theft to help the young woman escape to France, but the theft is discovered, and Faith falls out with her Aunt Dorcas who is her guardian. When Faith is a young lady, her father returns from India and tries to marry Faith to the unpleasant local squire, Sir Oscar Northwood, simply to get her off his hands. Faith's father is insistent that Faith marries, and Faith sees the net closing tighter and tighter around her. Another great story from popular Victorian author Eliza Kerr, edited in a White Tree Publishing edition.
