This detective novel follows on from other Bernie Fazakerley mystery stories (Sorrowful Mystery, Mystery over the Mersey, In my Liverpool home, ...) but it is complete in itself. In it we meet old friends, such as disabled police detective DCI Jonah Porter, his personal assistant, Bernie Fazakerley and her long-suffering husband, Peter. We also renew our acquaintance with Father Damien, parish priest of St Cyprian's Church, who made a cameo appearance in "Sorrowful Mystery".

Father Damien is worried that the renovation of the organ in St Cyprian's church may not be finished in time for the important Easter services. That's even before the organ builders discover a corpse concealed beneath it and the police halt the work while they investigate. Who is the young man whose remains have been lying hidden for more than thirty years? And who killed him and then secreted his body in the church?
