THE JOKER is the story of Darren Bennett, a motor mechanic with aspirations of becoming a full-time stand up comedian. He has played before some dubious crowds in some less dubious theatres, he is married to Mavis who loves him deeply and dearly. While in a dressing room in another seedy theatre, after pouring a drink and toasting his all time heroes picture, he voices his desire to become a great comedian and offers to sell his soul to anyone who would make his dream of fame and glory come true. Much to his astonishment the ghost of his long time hero Parley Grainger appears and offers to help. The help is in the way of Parley has to take over his body, this Darren agrees and all he has to say is begone, and Parley exits his body, but things become very different and Parley likes being in Darrens body and then it becomes harder to get him out. There follows a fast-moving, hilarious tale of apparent success not only on stage but with a procession of women who have desires on his person. And his travel to some of the best venues and then to New York.Where things really take a turn for the worse, and Darren has to get Parley out at all costs
