Mi abuela is sick is told from the perspective of an eight-year-old girl who has a very sick grandmother. It deals with cancer, a subject that is difficult for many parents to talk about and moreover, give their children the appropriate answers to their questions. This book is a learning tool for children, parents and educators. It includes an educational page on how to talk to kids about cancer. The story is written in English with some sentences in Spanish and a glossary because the main character is of Hispanic descent. The story includes an educational page explaining cancer to kids.
