Amanda's desperate to win The Buckfast Stakes, a prestigious Dartmoor horse race, against her snooty rival Penelope. Amanda's grandfather buys her a battered saddle. Legend says that during a storm in 1638, the saddles of two horses flew off and vanished into the darkness. Amanda's saddle is believed to be one of them, found in the local Abbey roof, but the other one remains lost. Amanda is amazed to discover that her thoughts can make the saddle fly and she can guide it anywhere she wants to go. With this saddle on her horse Ebony, she could win the trophy. But will she cheat?
