When THEN turns into NOW
You have a BLASTED PAST

Immerse yourself in this character-driven, intricately plotted, imaginative novel that will keep you busy 'turning pages.' Follow Jim Nagle who has more problems than any 54-year old investment executive can handle. His ex-wife has her lawyers threatening him, his estranged son is in jail, and the California State Franchise Board is chasing him for back taxes. The topper is his business has grown so fast he is mismanaging it. It just seems he can't get a break.

Then, in less time than a single heartbeat, his life is changed forever. A freak accident thrust Nagle back 145 years into history. Could this be real? Did he really go back in time? Did he escape to another time, place and world? What is clear is that time was ripped from Nagle's existence as he stands on the dusty street of a small post-Civil War Texas town.

The reality is that time travel does exist, but Nagle can't get his mind around WHY it happened. He thought of the time travel books he'd read. Compared to what he was facing, those books should have started with, "Once upon a time." Nothing in his recall promised any help. Nagle isn't prepared for a trip into 19th Century historical fiction. And this is not fiction!

The town where he now stands is called Boerne, and its population consists of gunfighters, drifters, post-war lost souls, hostile Indians, and prostitutes, although they prefer the appellation of sporting ladies. Colorful characters sprinkled among the solid German immigrant citizen that founded the village. It doesn't take Nagle long to observe that major crimes are frequently committed with impunity by the perpetrators. Where is the law that should be protecting the citizens? Who can protect him? It seems to Nagle that some of the desperados in Borne have found how to get away with murder. Staying alive is his second most important priority. Getting out of this place and back to 2017 is his primary goal.

Raised as a life-long Catholic Nagle had slipped from the grace of the Church over the years. Still, a believer if not a practitioner, as he becomes more adjusted to life in 1872 Boerne he eventually comes to believe that only God could send him back in time to this place. His present circumstance could not have been an accident, so it must be a part of God's plan. Nagle's renewed faith convinces him that his Maker wants him in 1872 for a reason known only to Him. But, what is the purpose? Was he sent here to change history? What is the significance of being put in this place at this time in antiquity?

Since he has no way to go back to 2017, Nagle will wait, tangled in time, for an understanding from above. In the meantime, he needs to develop coping skills to exist in this primitive environment. The modern contrivances he'd always relied on had not yet been invented. Nagle's circumstance is a whole new ballgame. In fact, he soon realizes, he'll need to develop some specialized skills pretty darn quick— to stay alive.

Read and enjoy this rich, nuanced, character-driven tale that goes far beyond good versus evil. Readers will identify with Nagle confusion over what has happened to him as he evolves into the nice guy trying to do the right thing who must overcome many obstacles to keep him from achieving his goals.
