中国的艺术设计教育起步于20 世纪50 年代，改革开放以后，特别是90 年代进入一个高速发展的阶段。由于学科历史短，基础弱，艺术设计的教学方法与课程体系受前苏联美术教育模式与欧美国家20 世纪初形成的课程模式影响，导致专业划分过细，过于偏重技术性训练，在培养学生的综合能力、创新能力等方面表现出突出的问题。随着经济和文化的大发展，社会对于艺术设计专业人才的需求量越来越大，市场对艺术设计人才教育质量的要求也越来越高。为了应对这种变化，教育部将"艺术设计"由原来的二级学科调整为"设计学"一级学科，既体现了对设计教育的重视，也体现了把设计教育和国家经济的发展密切联系在一起。因此教育部高等学校设计学类专业教学指导委员会也在这方面做了很多工作，其中重要的一项就是支持教材建设工作。此次由设计学类专业教指委副主任林家阳教授担纲的这套教材，在合教学资源、结合人才培养方案，强调应用型教育教学模式、开展实践和创新教学，结合市场需求、创新人才培养模式等方面做了大量的研究和探索；从专业方向的全面性和重点性、课程对应的精准度和宽泛性、作者选择的代表性和引领性、体例构建的合理性和创新性、图文比例的统一性和多样性等各个层面都做了科学适度、详细周全的布置，可以说是近年来高等院校艺术设计专业教材建设的力作。(China's art education started in 1950s, and went on the track of rapid development in 1990s.Due to the short history and weak basis of the major, the teaching methods and course system are impacted by the art education of the Soviet Union and the course system of the western countries formed in early 20th Century, resulting in the excessive major subdivision and focus on technical skills. Therefore, it has prominent problems in comprehensive ability and innovation ability.With the rapid development of economy and culture, the demand and quality requirements on art design talents are increasing.To cater to the change, the Ministry of Education lifts the "art & design" from the level 2 to level 1, showing the stress on art education and the combination of art education and national economy.Therefore, National Art Teaching Advisory Board of the Ministry of Education has made various efforts in this aspect, especially the support on the improvement of textbooks.The textbook, with Professor Lin Jiayang (National Art Teaching Advisory Board) as editor-in-chief, is compiled upon extensive researches and explorations in teaching materials and talent training programs, and makes scientific and integrated layout in the comprehensiveness and emphasis of the major, the accuracy and coverage of courses, the rationality and creativity of structure and the unity and diversity of image-text ratio. It is a masterpiece of the textbooks for the art & design major of higher vocational education in recent years.)
