Jean is a long suffering young woman with a gentry background. Her father disappeared after her mother's death and left her to deal with the land and bringing up her brother. For years she has been putting up with trying to survive and trying to keep her inheritance even though some unscrupulous people have been trying to take it away. By foul means. Unbeknown to her -her father gambled her lands away and the new owner has come to claim it without realizing a family lives there.
