The Paleo diet follows that of the diet of the Paleolithic man or in layman's terms the prehistoric Stone-Age man. The most basic explanation of the paleo diet can be gathered from the statement, "If your Stone Age ancestors didn't eat it, then you shouldn't eat it either." Of course, this is a rather broad explanation but it's the first step in understanding the Paleolithic diet.

A paleo diet is one rich in fruits, nuts, vegetables, and meats. People following such a diet will exclude all foods that cannot be categorized under one of these labels. Foods such as alcohol, coffee, dairy, processed foods and oils, salts, grains, and sugars are non-paleo products.

This style of eating is mirroring the hunter/gatherer lifestyle and rejecting eating styles from the agricultural period and onward. Below are a series of foods and food types to avoid if you are starting the Paleo diet journey.

  • Dairy Products
  • Grains, Legumes, Potatoes
  • Fast food, processed foods and Oils
