Laney and her friends only survive the supernova because they're on a field trip to an underground science facility. When she and the other nine survivors emerge, Laney finds a world of corpses, red smog, and tight supplies.
And worst of all, the distant exploding star has destroyed the ozone layer.  After losing family to skin cancer, Laney's no stranger to what the sun can do.  It's already destroyed her world and now it's coming for everyone else.
Staying alive and finding her father means that Laney must face her deepest fear—her fear of hope.
