Ray Impelletiere was one of the super tall heavyweight boxers to come along in the early 1930s. Perhaps the best known amongst them was Italian Primo Carnera who became Heavyweight Champion of the World. Impelletiere, a graduate of Peekskill High School in Westchester County, New York, was managed by former boxer Harry Lenny. Impelletiere, who fought out of Cold Spring, NY, first established his boxing reputation on the Pacific Coast. This was an era when boxing officials debated restricting extremely tall fighters, like Impelletiere at 6'7 1/2", to a "super dreadnought" class.
