Edith Wharton (1862 - 1937) was an American novelist and short story writer. Her novels and short stories portrayed the lives and morals of the late nineteenth century. She won the Pulitzer Prize for Literature in 1921, and was the first woman to receive this honor. Whartons novel "Ethan Frome" was published in 1911.
