In the city of Trenton, New Jersey, Stephanie Plum is simply trying to make a living by helping out her cousin in his bail bond business.  He sends her out to find the criminals who didn’t show up for court dates.  While this may seem like a mundane task, Stephanie encounters some of the strangest scenarios.  From Ginny, who would rather jump off a ledge than go to jail, to Billy Bacon Brown who made it down a chimney covered in bacon grease, these criminals are anything but ordinary.

One of the criminals that Stephanie is given to bring in is a fraternity brother at Kiltman College.  He had been accused of beating the dean with a baseball bat.  Everyone who knows this guy knows that he isn’t capable of such a thing.  After being chased down by Stephanie and her gang, he contacts her and tells her a story that she doesn’t know whether or not to believe. 

Could it be possible that the triple murder has something to do with the frat house’s desire to put stink bombs into fireworks?  As she investigates the case, she finds that the circumstances are much direr than a simple college prank…
