She came from the peace and serenity of the forested isle of Tasmania, the world and her future stretched out before her. She had only to choose her destiny. He came from the strictures of tradition, bound by the complex limitations of his thousand-year heritage. It seemed utterly impossible! Or could they allow love to show them a freedom each had never dreamed existed?
Set in post-republican Tasmania and the United Kingdom, this novel explores the relevance of a monarchy in the 21st century that has archetypal consequences for the western world. It is a story of love and its arch-nemesis, fear. Most of all, it is a story about freedom and the courageous quest of following one’s heart.
Originally written in 1998, before Frederick of Denmark first met the Tasmanian woman who became his princess and before William of Wales had found his, this story was set in a ‘near future’. Even though history has overtaken this love story in so many ways, it is nonetheless a relevant exploration of the challenges of relationship for any couple risking scrutiny of themselves by another as a journey into embracing personal sovereignty and freedom.
