Declan Harper is determined to have the reluctant woman he desires as his bride, even if it means visiting the old witch who lives in the woods beyond Tanglewood, Mississippi to purchase a love potion. But he finds the old woman gone, long dead. In her place is her bewitching granddaughter Matilda, who claims to know nothing of the kind of magic he wishes to possess.
