“You’re fired.”

Jason Walker blinked.

Nope, nothing changed. Not the dingy office with the out-of-date faux wood paneling, or the woman sitting across from him behind the old desk.

She was the only thing in this depressing room worth looking at.  Long, thick golden hair. Not blonde, not brown, but a burnished gold, almost like brass. She wore a plaid blue and white flannel work shirt. The sleeves rolled up to her elbows. When Jason started two weeks ago, stealing looks of the lovely Ms. Robin Avery had become a delicious pastime. With her quick wit and solid presence, she commanded attention when she walked around the site. He couldn’t help himself if she had been on his mind a little too much when he was alone and aching.
