(The Bell Jar is a semi-autobiographical novel and the only full-length novel written by the American writer and poet Sylvia Plath, a winner Pulitzer Prize of Poetry in 1982. This novel is viewed as a contemporary literature classic by the American literary circle. The novel selects a extremely dramatic period of the author's short life: in the summer of 1953, the 20-year-old Plath received the first award in her writing career, winning the first prize in a national fiction contest sponsored by a fashion magazine; however, just after she finished enjoying the honor trip to New York, she soon entered a whirlpool of depression and mental disorders, and even attempted suicide once. In the short year afterwards, she had experienced the process from the bright podium to the gloomy mental hospital, from living to death and then to a rebirth.)
