'We the People' should be required reading for all junior high and high school students. Based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, it sets forth each right with clear explanation and remarkable illustrations by the author. They include the rights to vote, liberty, security, privacy, expression, religion, assembly, association, equal protection, fair trial, presumption of innocence, equal pay for equal work, adequate standard of living, to apply for asylum, presumption of innocence and fair trial, as well as the rights to be free from slavery, torture and cruel treatment, discrimination, arbitrary arrest and detention. Dyson makes these rights come to life using the examples of Martin Luther King Jr., Harriet Tubman, Mohandas Gandhi, Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela, Malala, Trayvon Martin and many others. An excellent text for classes in social studies, history, current events, women's studies, Black and Latino studies, and many others. I can't recommend this book highly enough.
