A fascinating and little-remembered event in 1876—a group of men tried to steal the body of Abraham Lincoln and hold it for ransom. The failed attempt and the subsequent efforts to better secure the late president's remains are the subject of this volume, first printed in 1890. The writer was John Carroll, custodian of the Lincoln Memorial.
