The year is 1905. Peter Creswell, heir to the Britannic Steamship Company, loses his first command in a collision with a tanker loaded with kerosene. There is loss of life. Unable to cope with the aftermath, Peter seeks refuge in alcohol. Meanwhile, Rodger Brandon is planning to take control of the company from Peter's uncle and is also pursuing the favour of Peter's attractive fiancée, Sarah Hart. Peter eventually seeks refuge as a quartermaster on board an Atlantic liner where he meets Gwen Neilson a wealthy American heiress. The Britannic Steamship Company launch their first Atlantic Liner which becomes a burning inferno on her maiden voyage to New York, threatening the lives of over two thousand passengers and crew in mid Atlantic. The tragedy brings the main characters together during an international rescue attempt and becomes the catalyst for Peter Creswell's redemption and retribution.
