Egypt, 1914. It is the beginning of the war and Gareth Owen, Mamur Zapt and Head of Cairo's Secret Police, is given the unhappy task of rounding up enemy aliens. Michael Pearce was raised in Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, where his fascination for languages began. He later trained as a Russian interpreter, but moved away from languages to follow an academic career.
Nigel Carrington's West End work includes The Taming of the Shrew and Antony and Cleopatra at the Haymarket. On TV he was Amanda Burton's assistant, Greg McAdam, in Brookside, Rita's nephew, Roger Brookes, in Coronation Street, and has been seen in Kavanagh QC, Casualty and The Bill. On radio, Nigel has played the part of Nigel Pargetter in The Archers and taken the role of Dr David Boyce in Westway, the popular BBC World Service drama series
