False Prophets is a fascinating and troubling expose of life undercover within the criminal and violence-prone Montana Freemen organization. In 1995, Dale and Connie Jakes went deep undercover into the Montana Mountains for the FBI, placing themselves in the middle of what they would soon learn was an organized center of American terrorism. Their story is a subtly scathing commentary on the FBI as well as antigovernment, hate-mongering militias and organizations within the United States. Based on the information they gathered during a year's involvement with the Montana Freemen, Dale and Connie were able to give the FBI valuable intelligence regarding how widespread the militia movements within the US are, and just how organized and connected they have become. The Jakes were able to provide an eye-witness account of the unpredictable paranoid environment of the Montana Freemen, who were eventually arrested after an 81-day standoff, the longest in US law enforcement history. This unique saga also gives a detailed view of a top secret undercover operation – the risks, dangers and courage it requires.
