The book is based on a true story from the life of my grandmother—embellished with the setting moved to July 4. Hannah is almost ready to start school, and she is feeling independent, as she is allowed to go to town without her mother for the first time. She meets two little girls her age who later tease her, bringing tears, and Hannah's decision to walk home. She becomes lost and is found and rescued then returned to her family the next day. The time is around 1893, and the nature of the little girl reminded me of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Little House stories.
