作者針對二人小家庭出發,編寫實用又生活化的食譜。她是日本人的妻子,每天做飯是生活重心之一,每當在購買食材及預備食物的份量時,十分費神,因為每種食物都得買最少的份量,否則又用不掉,變為浪費,有時為了增加菜餚變化,同時地購入數種食材,就算是最少份量累積起來著實不少,佔盡冰箱空間又苦惱如何清掉而不浪費。實際上,兩口子在一頓晚餐內消化所有食材是有難度,要不就翌日再吃著前一天的料理,吃得多也頗倒胃口,缺乏新鮮感,還覺得自己很可憐。本書以食材分類,分為雞、豬、牛、海鮮及蔬菜五類,每部份著有5對食譜,即10個,全書共50個食譜。另將某幾個食譜內加入「剩食料理」,就是把剩菜稍加變化,成為全新料理,徹底不浪費食物。在書的前部,建議加設調味料百科,簡單介紹本書所用的調味料;在最後部份,建議附有「簡易常備菜」,用以配搭便當外帶。
