The stories, anecdotes and opinion pieces in this volume follow are grouped into broad themes: practice, the profession of child and youth care and themes that speak to the social, economic and political contexts of child and youth care practice. None of the pieces presented in this book are research-based in the traditional sense of this term. The author rarely cites other authors, uses minimal data, and makes no claim of providing truth, correctness or accuracy. Instead, his hope is to provoke conversations amongst child and youth care practitioners and those otherwise engaged with our field that allow us to celebrate what we have already accomplished, give permission to step back using critical perspectives, and role model the idea of dreaming a little.
