《推背图》共60幅图像，对应60段谶语和诗，但是它的预言和相对应的历史年代之间并无一定的规律可循。历史上的五代十国时期，前后只有53年，《推背图》却用了5个图像，平均每10年一个图像，而清朝有260年的历史，中间有100多年没有任何图像和预言。李淳风、袁天罡编写《推背图》的时间，据推算是公元648年到公元649年之间，距今已经1300多年。如果用数学来做个简单的计算，它平均每25年到35年会有一个图像和相应的预言，60幅图像应该预测了将近1800年到2000年的历史
