Millions of people travel and see only their physical destinations, failing to see themselves reflected in their itinerary, and neglecting to connect their thoughts with their experiences. "Cebu" is an account of my own trip to the Philippines, as well as a synopsis of my Filipino-American life. My family accompanied me on this trip, which was a proverbial voyage of discovery. Every place we visited stimulated in us a series of recollections and meditations. The things we saw and did were imbued with common emotion and unexpected meaning, culminating in a final, fictionalized synthesis of our adventure. To paraphrase T.S. Eliot: We arrive at the place where we started, only to know that place for the first time.
