Lawrence, leaving his mortal body behind, is stunned to meet his father in the afterlife who has come in order to help him transition. Clinging to the desperate hope of finding his son, Lawrence rejects his father's offer. Instead, he chooses to become an outsider, living in the 'seam,' the middle ground between Heaven and Earth, so that he can both find his son and seek revenge upon the dealer that gave his son the fatal drugs.
