In the country of Verdonia, people vote for the next king from one of the three royal families: Celestia, Verdon and Averno. In a plan to thwart Prince Brandt of Averno from getting married to Princess Alyssa of Celestia, Princess Miri from Verdon switches places with Alyssa during the marriage ceremony. Miri puts aside her feelings for Brandt on their wedding night, and disappears from him the next day.
