A werewolf story like no other. Peg, a racing greyhound, begins to transform, his mind and body expanding beyond his control. Refusing to race any more, he is sent to be 'euthanised', but fights his way out of a mass grave, to run away. He wanders into a seaside town, to be taken under the wing of an eccentric old drunk who lives amongst the outcasts and addicts. The homeless are disappearing, and being found mutilated. Peg learns that this terror comes home every generation, and those around him have strange secrets too. He is more than just a coward and a fool, and has a part to play in saving his friends, but he must travel through time and space, to battle witchcraft, monsters and magic to help them.
