"From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" by E. L. Konigsburg was first published in 1967.
It is said that during the author's lifetime she had been inspired by numerous sources.
The author, E. L. Konigsburg, used to leave her children at the galleries of the Met while she would be taking a painting class in the museum during the 1960s.
She would meet her children after her class and then they would go around the museum together. Eventually, in 1965, the author became really interested in the Met.
