We were just seven regular law enforcement officers (LEOs) assigned to a regular transport detail, not expecting anything out of the ordinary. Thousands, if not millions, of LEOs, throughout the world, leave their homes every morning or evening expecting to do their jobs and return home to their families and friends in one piece after their shift. These LEOs know that once they pin on their badge, put on the bulletproof vest and strap on their weapon, anything can and may happen. Even if this detail went as planned, these officers were heroes. Why you may ask? Because they showed up to do their job, were prepared for whatever could happen without blinking an eye and accomplished their mission. 99% of the time, the LEOs return home safe and sound. But that 1% of the time they don't because something unexpected, unimaginable and horrible happened.
