An inscription on a Zippo lighter I bought from a badly deformed Vietnamese boy reveals the horrors of the Vietnam War. The inscription read: "Killer by day and lover by night." I wondered how he felt having to sell this item to buy food. Americans and Vietnamese paid for the war with their lives in a conflict sparked by politicians. As I gazed at the wreckage left behind, burnt-out tanks, helicopters and unexploded land mines, I reflected on the supposed need for war. I found a spirit of reconciliation among the Vietnamese people. They could never forget, but they were willing to forgive. It tells me that most people don't want wars, it's politicians who do.
