As an exciting addition to the several collections of Arlt's essays, this study offers a new perspective through its examination of the language of the essays and the semiotic codes that provide insight into Arlt's opinions on porteño social structure, including the place of women within that structure. Through its literary analysis, this book opens the possibilities for further comparison of Arlt's articles to his fiction. The addendum contains previously unedited essays from El Mundo.
