Joseph Barboza was a hitman and associate for New England Mafia don Raymond Patriarcha and also Henry Tameleo. Barboza was in trouble with the law starting in 1945. In my research I found an article about him breaking out of Concord Reformatory in 1953. He escaped along with several other inmates and headed to Boston with a captive service station attendant. Barboza was privy to information about fixed horse races, NBA basketball games and other illegal operations run by Patriarcha and Tameleo. On one occasion he witnessed a horse jockey being shaken down for $1,500 he owed the Mafia.
