Die welterste Compact-Cassette wurde im Januar 1963 der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt. Es handelte sich um eine Zweiloch-Kassette. Eine Einloch-Kassette wurde parallel hergestellt, PHILIPS entschied sich aber für die Zweiloch-Kassette. Das Team um Lou Ottens entwickelte diese Kassette... genauer: Es war J. J. M. Schoenmakers.
