"Ich habe nit wuhst, das der wulf so gotlose ist", kommentierte Friedrich Wilhelm I. Wolffs Rede. Bei "Strafe des Stranges" wurde Wolff des Atheismus beschuldigt, aus Preußen ausgewiesen. In seiner Festrede als Prorektor 1721 in Halle hatte er das tugendhafte Leben der nicht-christlichen Chinesen als vorbildlich empfohlen.
