For some authors, their first work is a rite of passage. Adam Abraham is no exception. From the author of I Am My Body, NOT! comes a refreshing new voice of reason. In A Freed Man: An Emancipation Proclamation, the author describes a new, *personal* context for concept of freedom, as expressed in a democratized society, which he terms as being "freed". A "freed" man or woman is one who has achieved a form of mental and emotional liberation; exorcized of negative attitudes and behavior that kill "Wonderful Dreams." According to the author, a Wonderful Dream is an essential first step to creating an enriched, and enriching life experience. In making his points, Abraham writes extensively and variously from history, current events, and personal experience. Some topics include: CIVIL SCHISM: Historical and Today. 1960’s Civil Rights Movement strategies of Martin Luther King vs. Black Power advocates. Contrast that to today's concept of Affirmative Action vs. the author's redefinition of the term. TERRORISM: Domestic and international, which are the outgrowth of the same mindset; from gang bangers to religious extremists. Up-to-the-minute reflections on the World Trade Center disaster, Osama bin Laden, and justice. GOVERNMENT AND DEMOCRACY: The responsibilities (and limits) of government to its citizens, and the importance of democracy as the best social environment for individual transformation (and realization) of Wonderful Dreams. WEALTH AND CAPITALISM: Abraham examines our love/hate relationship to wealth and capitalism. PSYCHOLOGY OF STASISM: Attitudes and behaviors that, when embraced, tend to keep people in "places" of their own creation and perpetuation. HUMANITY AS RACE: Author sticks a pin in the balloon concept of separate and disparate races of human beings. Claims that the powers that make us human apply to all, and what makes us humane requires a choice. SEVEN INALIENABLE FREEDOMS: The author pays homage to the framers of the democratic social system in the United States, which, despite its own growing pains (Revolutionary and Civil Wars, Civil Rights Movements, etc.) has allowed more people from diverse backgrounds, to create and realize their Wonderful Dreams than any other country.
