Trained by the tough Sergeant Jack and the even tougher Masher Moody, Nicholas John Lalor is a cop who believes he can make a difference. In the wilds of 1960s Tasmania, he deals with perverts, as well as druggies who try to flush dope down the drain. It's hardly a glamorous job, but somebody has to do it, and anything that ends with a laugh at the end of the day can't be all that bad.
Lalor finds it's all preparation for his shift to the Big Smoke, where he runs into a drug kingpin and the man who's to become his arch nemesis, John Silver. From a privileged lifestyle, Silver is clever, manipulative, and cultivates a network of crooked lawyers, judges, and politicians who protect him.
Lalor's obsession drives him, battling bureaucracy and corruption, and learning that in a world of shadowy figures and duplicity, there's no black and white, and there's always another side to the story - a side that sits between the legal system and the underworld, and which becomes entrenched in Lalor's Lore.
Funny, fast, informative, and coloured by a time the world wasn't so politically correct, 'Lalor's Lore' is a compelling story of one cop's crusade to bring down a kingpin and his handling of the other criminals he encounters.
