Carmudgeonly Milton 'Millie' Malone and his long-suffering wife, Dulcie, sell their farm and move to town, looking forward to a rest from their labours. Newly wealthy, they take with them little beyond Millie's La-Z-Boy recliner and, of course, their working dog, Blue. Dulcie's not convinced that Blue belongs in an urban setting, but the situation has its benefits—She relishes her time spent alone while Millie takes Blue for a daily walk on a nearby scenic lookout. Life is uncomplicated, and the couple do get some rest—But then Blue dies. Millie mopes, becoming even more impossible, till Dulcie brings him home a tiny pup. The old farmer is not yet reconciled to 'Cyril' when further tragedy strikes. Will Millie and Cyril cope? Will their relationship strengthen? It's a long way back to the top of the hill.
