Part Four of an historical romance saga set in the Scottish Borders.
World War II has ended, rationing is still in force and building material is scarce - the first priority is repairing the homes destroyed by the German bombs. Rachel and Ross Maxwell, remain married and living at Lochandee, having survived various challenges. Daughter Bridie is being wooed by Nick Jones, her brother Conan's business partner. She is very innocent and Scotland at the time is not the easiest place for courtship. Rachel struggles to sell her beloved heirloom to help the young couple build a house of their own.
