A Christmas Carol: The book was written at a time when the British were examining and exploring Christmas traditions. But because of its popularity, people again pay attention to the spiritual essence of Christmas. Poet and humorist Thomas Hood wrote in Jan 1844, "If Christmas, with its ancient and hospitable customs, its social and charitable observances, were ever in danger of decay, this is the book that would give them a new lease. The very name of the author predisposes one to the kindlier feelings; and a peep at the Frontispiece sets the animal spirits capering.'(小气财神:《小气财神》其实是写于一个旧有耶诞传统逐渐式微的年代;然而由于本书的广受欢迎,使圣诞节及其蕴涵的精神情操再次得到人们的重视。
