Mount Cotopaxi in the Andes is the background for the water color painted by the author of this book, a stately background to the world of her childhood.

She and her family were part of a mission group for the Church of the Brethren in Ecuador in the 1940s and 50s. When Jeanne was 14, the family left the village of Llano Grande. She said goodbye to childhood friendships, bonds with indigenous people and experiences among mission friends in a beautiful country with a rich culture.

As a grandmother, Jeanne Smucker felt the desire to re-experience her life in Llano Grande. She missed something from those times and she wanted to find it. This charming memoir is the story of the journey to that small village in Ecuador which had enchanted her as a child and could never really be left behind.
