This e-book of Housing Care and Support journal provides some international perspectives on the role of housing in the safeguarding of vulnerable people. Contributions include an Australian research perspective on the lack of accessible and affordable private housing for people with disability, covering a wider discussion on assumptions of vulnerability. An analysis of the role of housing in safeguarding policy in England follows. This chapter argues that housing has a key role to play in the implementation of adult safeguarding and considers some of the implications of this role in practice, particularly for the training of frontline practitioners. A new research perspective from the US demonstrates positive satisfaction with representative payee programs by unstably housed persons. This finding varies from previous studies on the topic and also considers the use of harm reduction and peer staff in working with this vulnerable group. Finally, a case study from the US considers Housing First models and their ability to engage with and house chronically homeless individuals.
