James Vasquez is a young boy growing up in Cavite. The story begins with infant James being baptized, bringing joy to his parents – Robert and Evelyn. A year later, Robert dies in an airplane collision above the South China Sea. Evelyn becomes a widow, a single mother. When her son was a bit older, she tells him that his father died and is in heaven, watching over him. The story unfolds as James goes through the cycles of childhood, puberty, and adolescence. He falls in love with a young girl, named Ariela, at their senior high school. They get closer together and begin to experience an array of challenges which test their love for each other. Will their love last for a lifetime?
