On a cold San Francisco evening, Amber Winters is on her way home from a modeling job, with her also model daughter, Katherine, when she detours to a corner market for a gallon of ice cream.
Spencer Simon is a man out of a job, out of luck, and no place to live. Walking past the same market, he detours inside to inquire about a job. With another rejection against him, he turns to leave. He puts his hand in his pocket, intending to bring out change to pay for a cup of coffee, but instead, pulls out a gun he hadn't even remembered having.
Never intending to rob the store, he is surprised when the clerk shoves money at him. He is unable to believe what he has done and flees the store, running directly into Amber. As the gun discharges, he watches in horror as the beautiful model drops to the ground, and five-year-old Katherine begins to scream.
Twenty-seven years later, Katherine is a beautiful, successful lawyer with a hole in her heart, and Spencer is an old man with heavy guilt and a son. Chad is tired of living in the shadow of the memory of a little girl and exacts a plan to relieve Katherine of her wealth, intent on making her suffer as much as he has.
Chad enters Katherine's life, but when she rejects his advances, he comes up with an alternate plan of revenge.
