There is trouble on the surface of the planet Lief, and Warrior is sent to investigate. His report to the gods is less than optimistic, describing evil magic, dead souls and monsters walking and fighting on the surface, and two self-styled "Kings" who are almost certainly evil gods whose proper place is in the Underworld. Worse still, it appears that these evil gods are not content to take control of the surface of the planet, but are searching for the Stepping Stones to the Gods and planning an invasion of the gods' Realms.

To deal with the problem is outside Warrior's role of policing the Universe. It is a job for Marina, Battle Warrior to the Gods, and her army, but will it prove to be too much even for her powers?
