Projects fail for a variety of reasons. Projects can fall apart due to lack of management and executive support, lack of client involvement, poor planning, and unrealistic expectations. Not understanding what is required to complete the project as well as unrealistic expectations, both on the part of management and the client, can cause a project to fail as no one really understands what is required to complete the project successfully. Poor planning is partially to blame, and so is a lack of requirements. Because the client may not understand what they want or what can be done given the scope of the project those working on the project may end up working aimlessly.
