Acid reflux is an unpleasant condition which is experienced by almost everyone at least once in a lifetime. For some the problem is chronic and serious. For others it is just irritating and can be self-medicated with OTC (over the counter) remedies from pharmacies, supermarkets, news agencies and even street stalls. There are more preparations available to treat it than there are for headaches or the common cold. It can be relieved, stopped or cured depending on its cause and severity. Sometimes serious "prescription only" drugs must be used and even surgical procedures are available. Although a very common problem it should never be taken lightly without a thorough causal investigation having been undertaken. Acid reflux can "mask" other more serious occurrences such as heart attacks.
