This is the fifth in the series of journalistic and introspective books of poems by Acie Cargill. He is a former student of Mark Strand and Gwendolyn Brooks. There is no consistent subject matter to this collection of 56 poems. Some are about relationships, some heinous criminals, some comments on the world of politics, and even some dabbling in historical commentary.
These poems are not abstract. They are easy to read and hopefully, enjoyable and informative. That is what poetry should be about. There is no self-deprecating, no whining, no overly emotional schlock, and no preaching. There are my opinions. There is praising of people, critters, and situations, my observations and interpretations. Hey, I am Mensa. My stuff is worth reading.
